    Thank you Sifu for sharing this you explain perfectly the “Peng Jin” concept in this video. For people that don’t understand this is the “expanding force” in traditional martial arts, your force or energy project forward without you trying to push or “brute force” your way into your opponent.

    I can do the one inch but I think I do it different than wing chun - I do it with the knuckles from index and middle finger - I believe (I could be wrong) that they use the last two knuckles. Also, I don't pull back my fist like a lot of people.

    If the pad holder holds the pad against the their body, they can feel if the punch has penetrative power or just pushing power, which they can report to the person punching.

    A Wing Chun punch is different from boxing or TKD or whatever having the ability to strike in different ways gives you options during a combat situation and allows you to use the right tool at the right time this is Wing Chun 👏💪👊

    I'd say the easiest way to tell real Wing Chun from fake is whether the sifu and senior students know how to adapt the principles for their build and apply them effectively in realistic sparring. If they all look like carbon copies of each other, unless they are genetic clones, they lack understanding. On the other hand, if they rely on an assortment of techniques with no congruity or foundation in Wing Chun theory, they have a hodgepodge, not a cohesive system. As a complete fighting system, it must be trained how to apply these principles to recover from unfavorable positions, even if we don't seek them out. Isn't that the whole point of bil tse, that in real life we don't always enjoy ideal scenarios? We have to prepare for the worst, to know when and how to burn the candle from both ends in order to avoid getting muddied at every hiccup.

    I think in Bruce Lee's quest for truth in combat he discovered some of the points you referred to I view Wing Chun as one of the fuel things in life created by man that is perfect but Bruce was an impatient man he wanted dominance right now all the time and that's why he created Jeet Kune Do it allows you to cheat and I must say half WC and half JKD together can win street fights quite nicely I wouldn't say it's Superior to Wing Chun but it doesn't take 30 years to become proficient eather thanks for the great videos Sifu keep them coming!!!

  • @bredmond812

    This is a great video because it addresses the common misconception. The truth is that chi sao is never meant to be a fight, but it is only an exercise. The video also shows what wing chun is roughly supposed to be like in a live moment. I say "roughly" because it is chi sao after all, not a streetfight.

    If he pushes you with his both hands on your shoulders, how this technique helps?

  • @Dr.Chisao
    @Dr.Chisao 3 місяці тому

    But the question Ive been asking myself is how to get the direction of the shift to autoselect based on my opponents pressure and not my own anticipation based on my own sense of loss of balance.

    • @freddap5518
      @freddap5518 3 місяці тому

      The pressure of your partner will tell you which side you have to shift. but you have to listen what your partner hands ( energy / vector force) say. for that you need to be relax. hope my comment helps you to be more clear ;)

    • @Dr.Chisao
      @Dr.Chisao 3 місяці тому

      @freddap5518 I agree with you but so often relaxation a skill unto itself. By that I mean once you "figure out" how to do it then its "so easy". Everyone is trying to relax yet some ppl pick up the skill and others struggle. Personally I always looking for the line between mere mechanical technique "dance moves " where it works because you can anticipate your opponents in a drill setting vs reflexive fighting skills.

    • @Dr.Chisao
      @Dr.Chisao 3 місяці тому

      @calmwaves5852 I dont think its much different conceptually than with the hand. Chances are its not a perfectly even push so shift to the side that makes sense. If it feels even then you can sink or uproot him. If its perfectly center in all directions (rarely the case) take one step back and reassess.

    I had two different school the first one from Lok Yu and the tan was as you mentioned toward the chin and in a straight line.. The second school if from Leung Ting and the Tan sao is more bent like you told at 2:45.. My understanding is that when we do the TAN in a straight line our force is moving forwar as we use the elbow powerm however the had is point up and therefore the power goes up as well.. If we use elbow power and we bend the hand toward the body, all our forces go to the opponent. the arm seems to be more solid with the hand bent forward ( not upward ).. what do you u suggest ? Thanks
